Environmental issues
Fur animals are fed with feed largely made from bi-products from the food-industry.

The fur feed factories collect large quantities of chicken and other trimmings from slaughterhouses, and recycle a total of 50.000-60.000 tons each year. In this way, we take slaughterhouse waste, which we would otherwise have had trouble getting rid of, and turn it into a beautiful, luxurious material that helps Norwegian farmers maintain their income.

Preservation of endangered species
The farmed production of fur serves several environmental purposes. One is that by providing fur from farmed animals, we contribute to the preservation of endangered species such as the mountain fox. 120 years ago, the mountain fox was a characteristic species of the Norwegian mountains. Due to heavy hunting in the early 20th century, the stock of foxes declined dramatically over the course of a few years, and in 1930 the Norwegian government decided to preserve the species. Despite this, the Norwegian stock is now down to no more than 50 individuals.

On a global scale the species is still quite strong in Russia and Canada, even though the decline has begun also in those areas. Even now, the mountain fox is hunted for its fur in these areas.
